Help Desk Engineer (MSP Environment)

Location: Great Neck, NY (Onsite)

Job Type: Full‑Time

Salary Range: $75-$105k (flexible/based on experience)

Our Client, a Managed Service Provider, is seeking a highly skilled Help Desk Engineer to join their fast‑paced technical team. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional who thrives in dynamic environments, enjoys solving complex problems, and excels at delivering exceptional customer service. You’ll support diverse clients, manage sophisticated infrastructures, and play a key role in both project execution and technical operations.

What You’ll Do

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute technical projects and client onboarding.
  • Manage cloud‑based offerings and RMM systems.
  • Support VMware infrastructures and virtual server environments (VMware, Hyper‑V).
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting for escalated Help Desk issues.
  • Implement systems and solutions on client premises.
  • Document changes, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Perform network and system monitoring, backup administration, and issue resolution.
  • Conduct trending analysis for chronic issues and propose remediation.

Daily Technical Tasks

  • Troubleshoot and support Windows and macOS environments.
  • Manage Active Directory, File/DNS/Printer servers, RDS, and SQL.
  • Administer on‑prem and cloud email systems (Exchange, Office 365).
  • Perform DNS, website, and spam filter administration.
  • Work with TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, FTP, SMTP, SNMP, SSL, and related protocols.

  • Deep expertise in VMware, SAN storage, and virtual infrastructures.
  • Strong networking foundation and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Meticulous documentation habits and a strong customer‑service mindset.
  • Collaborative approach and ability to work within a technical team.
  • Valid driver’s license and transportation.

Technical Requirements

  • Recent MSP experience.
  • Cisco CCNP certification preferred.
  • Experience with Cisco Nexus/NX‑OS switches, IOS routers, and ASA firewalls.
  • Knowledge of BGP, VRF, VLANs, and multi‑site network redundancy.
  • Storage experience: SAN, iSCSI, NFS, NetApp FAS.
  • VMware certifications (VCP or VCAP preferred) and VMware vSphere 5 expertise.
  • Strong experience with Windows Server 2008/2012 and Microsoft Exchange (2007-2013).
  • Microsoft certifications (MCSE/MCITP preferred).
  • macOS technical experience.

Preferred Skills

  • Virtual desktop technologies (VMware, Citrix).
  • Firewall and switch administration.
  • Basic programming knowledge.
  • VOIP/telephony systems.
  • Experience with Atera or Datto Siris/NAS.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
  • Microsoft, Apple, VMware, Cisco, or related technical certifications are a plus.
