Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Probate Paralegal to join our legal team on a contract-to-hire basis. This role will support attorneys with all aspects of probate and estate administration, including preparation of court filings, client communication, and management of estate tax matters. The ideal candidate brings hands-on probate experience and a strong preference for familiarity with IRS Form 706 (Estate Tax Returns).


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys with probate and estate administration matters from inception through closing
  • Prepare and file probate documents with state courts (petitions, inventories, accountings, etc.)
  • Manage timelines, deadlines, and case calendars to ensure compliance with court requirements
  • Communicate with clients, beneficiaries, and financial institutions regarding estate matters
  • Coordinate asset valuation and assist with estate distribution processes
  • Prepare and review federal and state estate tax returns, including IRS Form 706 (preferred)
  • Gather financial documentation and support tax reporting requirements
  • Maintain organized case files (electronic and physical)
  • Conduct legal research related to probate and estate matters
  • Support attorneys with hearings, audits, and other proceedings as needed

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of probate or estate administration experience required
  • Paralegal certificate or equivalent legal experience preferred
  • Strong experience drafting probate pleadings and court filings
  • Working knowledge of probate court procedures and timelines
  • Experience with IRS Form 706 (Estate Tax Return) strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with fiduciary accounting and estate tax concepts is a plus
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with legal software and Microsoft Office Suite
